He has yet another new album out...very prolific these days seems to be banging out one every year. In more ways than one (8 kids at the last count)
The last thing that I liked from him was "From The Floorboards Up" but that must be at least 10 years ago now...

Setting Sons was a brilliant album.its hard to believe Weller was only about 20 when he wrote it.To this day I can't think of any other lyracist getting close to the what he wrote on that album.

Cheers northern - just listened to that cover for the first time. Weller also wrote setting sons when he was hardly old enough to shave so he can do what he wants in my book as an old bloke

The only really decent song he’s released since the Jam is Sunflower, which I thought was an old booze-addled black man when I heard it.

He's a star of the 70s/80s who isn't doing the nostalgia circuit and still creating new music on his own terms, it's not music I'm interested in but I suppose that deserves some credit.

I suppose it's very difficult when you get as famous as he was at such a young age and the media machine tag you as "The Voice of a Generation"
He could play the guitar and write lyrics and was able to articulate through his music what a lot of people were already thinking anyway. That was some achiement for somebody so young which is why he is still appreciated by so many.
He said everything that he needed to say before he was 30 years old (a bit like Peter Cook) but where do you go after that?
I don't think it's his responsibility to still be a spokesman for everyone who liked The Jam or Style Council.
He is a bit of a narcicist these days and has disappeared up his bum a long time ago and not done anything relevant for 20 odd years but he has probably earnt the right not to give a shit anymore. Even if I do feel a bit sad about that. Not all our idols are who we like to think they are.
I'm just surprised that he still has the appetite to churn it out...

The spacs between the tracks is the same as most albums.
The tracks are uncluttered and spacious in both instrumentation, arrangementand in tbe ballance and mix of the master.
The voice remains the stumbling block.

Love the Jam.
His first solo album and Wild Wood were great albums. Stanley Rd had a few good tunes on it, I bought his other albums, but I can't remember any of the tracks.

But at the end of the day the bloke has earnt the right to make whatever music he wants to and not give a fuck if it sells. He is now his own master and doesn't rely on record sales.
